Competition Levels

Primary

For dancers 6 years and under

Dances:

  •     Pas De Basque
  •     Pas De Basque and Highcuts
  •     Fling
  •     Sword

Beginner

For newly registered dancers 7 years and over

Dances:

  •     Fling

  •     Swords

  •     Seann Truibhas

  •     Strathspey and Highland Reel

  •     Reel of Tulloch (rarely)

  •     Scottish Lilt

  •     Flora McDonalds Fancy

Beginners have six squares to be marked on the back of their dance card.

This is done by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd at six different competitions in any

HIGHLAND dance.  When this is done the dancer moves to Novice.


Novice

For dancers 7 years and over

Dances are the same as for Beginner

Novices have six squares to be marked on the back of their dance card.

This is done by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd at six different competitions in any dance.

When this is done the dancer moves to Intermediate.


Intermediate

 Dances:

  •     Same dances as for Beginners and Novice
  •     Irish Jig
  •     Sailors Hornpipe
  •     Barracks Johnnie
  •     Highland Laddie

As of December 1st, 2015 Intermediates have six squares to be marked on the back of their dance card.  This is done by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd at six different competitions in any dance.  When this is done the dancer moves to Premier.

Dancers who have an Intermediate card dated before December 1st, 2015 remain in Intermediate for 1 year from the date of the first competition entered in this level.   When the year is done the dancer moves to Premier.


Premier

Once out of Intermediate the dancer progresses to Premier.

At this top level a dancer also compete in Championships.

Championship Dances:

  •     6 step Fling
  •     Sword Dance 3 & 1 (or 2 & 2)
  •     Sean Truibhas 4 & 2
  •     a Reel

Additional dances

  •     Same dances as for Intermediate
  •     Blue Bonnets
  •     Village Maid
  •     Earl of Errol
  •     Scotch Measure
