Programs

A limited number of printed programs will be available at the door for $7/ea. If you prepaid for a program, please provide the name of your dancer to the door volunteers.  Program information is also available via the ScotDance app for your mobile device that can be downloaded for free from the App Store for Apple devices or from Google Play for Android devices.

Category Changes

If your dancer has recently changed categories (ex. Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, etc.), please notify the Competition Secretary as soon as possible via email: comp.sec.fvhda@gmail.com

Dancer Check-In

Competitors can pick up their number from the designated table upon arrival. A valid RSOBHD dancer registration card must be presented before their number will be released to them. A $10 non-refundable fee (cash only) will be collected from a dancer who is not able to produce a valid RSOBHD card. Any prizes won may be withheld until a valid card can be presented.

For dancers competing on Saturday and Sunday: the same number will be used for both days.  Dancers are responsible for the safe-keeping of their number once they have picked it up on Saturday.

Change Rooms

Both female and male change rooms will be available to dancers in the rooms located along the corridor off the entry/lobby area and will be identified with signs. Should you require a gender-neutral space, please contact the Competition Secretary.

Warm-Up Rooms

The following spaces can be used for warming up:

  • Line-up room
  • Corridor (dancers may bring their own foam matting for personal use)
  • Dance classrooms (available to Premier dancers only; street shoes are strictly prohibited in these rooms as they will damage the floors)

Etiquette for Theatre Entry and Exit

Please enter and exit the theatre from the top of the stairs. The lower doors are reserved to those requiring an accessible entry/exit. To minimize noise and disruption, enter and exit the theatre between dances only (that is, as dancers are entering or exiting the stage).

Platform Schedule

For both days, morning dancing will start at 9am and afternoon dancing will not begin before 12:30pm. Links to the platforms schedules are available below.

Costume Changes

This section is for the benefit of Pre-Premier families who are new to competitions and would appreciate more details on the timing of costume changes.

Saturday
There are no costume changes required on Saturday.

Sunday
Beginner/Novice: Dancers should change into their national outfit immediately after performing the Seann Triubhas. There will be approximately 5 to 8 minutes available to change.  Dancers should return to the line-up room as soon as they are ready.

Intermediate: dancers will have the opportunity to change into their Hornpipe outfit while Beginner and Novice dancers perform the Lilt and the Flora.

Temporary Dance Cards for Pre-Premier Dancers

Please let the Competition Secretary know in advance if there’s a possibility of your dancer requiring a temporary ScotDance card for one of the reasons below.

  1. Dancer earns last stamp on Saturday and will be competing in a new category on the Sunday.
  2. Dancer earns last stamp on Saturday or Sunday and will be competing at another competition within 2 weeks.

Concession

The Grad Committee of Langley Fine Arts School will be on-site both Saturday and Sunday offering a variety of snacks and beverages throughout the day. All proceeds will go towards their 2024 graduation celebrations! Please note that only water is permitted in the theatre. There will be tables set up in the lobby for food and drink.

Message from the Vancouver School of Highland Dance

The Vancouver School of Highland Dance will be selling bracelets as a fundraiser, with 50% of the proceeds going towards the SDCCS competition in Kamloops. Inspired by Taylor Swift-style bracelets, there will be a variety of dance phrases and colours available! Price is $4 for one bracelet or $10 for three bracelets (cash payment only).

Social Media

The FVHDA is active on both Facebook and Instagram. You are welcome to tag us in your posts and/or use the hashtag #fvhda. A friendly etiquette reminder to not post photos or details of other competitors without their permission.

A friendly reminder that dancers are to be appropriately dressed while in common areas.  In addition, all those in attendance at the competition are required to respect the RSOBHD Code of Ethics.

Volunteers

Thank you to all the volunteers who are fulfilling important roles at our competition this weekend! We could not host a successful competition without you.

  • Sunday afternoon: 1 x door volunteer

If you might be able to help or have any questions about the shifts, please email Julia at volunteer.fvhda@gmail.com
