The FVHDA Executive is looking forward to welcoming you to the Fraser Valley Highland Dancing Association Open Championship and Competition this coming weekend!

Venue:

North Delta Secondary School: Theatre and Gymnasium

11447 – 82nd Avenue, Delta, BC

Link for Location      Link for WiFi Instructions.

Door Entry Fees:

Doors will not open to the public prior to 8.15am allowing for time for setting up of the venue.

Competitors and Dance Teachers  – No Charge

Adults, including volunteers completing a shift – $6

Seniors and Students – $4

Children 5 and under – Free

US dollars will be accepted at par (1:1) for entry, programs, and at the concession.

Programs:

These will be available at the door for $4. There will be one combined program for both areas of dancing. The program will contain judge biographies, championship draws and award information, as well as class information for both venues.

Volunteering:

The FVHDA relies on volunteers offering their time in order to have a well run, efficient, and enjoyable competition for all. Thank you to everyone who has already offered their time!

We are still in need of some help Saturday Morning:

Concession 8.00am – 10.45am*two volunteers

If you are available, please email Lorna, our Volunteer Coordinator  – grant.fvhda@gmail.com.

Numbers:

There will be one area for number collection for both venues. It is likely this area will be congested at times so please be patient with the volunteers on the numbers tables. One section of the table will have Championship numbers for the theatre, and another section the numbers for the Gym.

Numbers for Morning competitors will be available from 8.15am, and for Afternoon dancers from 11.15am.

As always, you will need to present a valid 2018 Scotdance or FUSTA card.

If you do not present a valid card we are now obliged to collect a $5 non-refundable fee, as well as information to allow us to confirm a card has been issued to you. Any prizes won may be withheld until such time as a valid card is presented.

Change and Warm up rooms:

PLEASE NOTE: There is only VERY limited change room space available to us in the gym at this facility. There are plenty of washrooms, alcoves and hallway spaces as alternatives but unfortunately no large change rooms.

***There are no designated warm up rooms available. There is ample space in the hallways where mats may be placed for warming up, and we recommend dancers bring these.***

Concession:

There will be a concession offering reasonably priced (and very delicious) drinks, lunch items, treats and snacks.  Please feel free to take your items to the gym should your dancer be competing in that area, but not into the Theatre. Bottled water ONLY is allowed to be consumed in the theatre. Please dispose of any litter responsibly.

As a courtesy to others, and for hygiene reasons, there should not be any garment bags etc. in the concession area.

Vendors:

There will not be a Used Costume Sale Rack at this competition.

TartanTown (Website) and McAleer Highland Gear (Website) will be at the competition with displays of costumes and other dance related products for sale. Be sure to check these out.

FVHDA Tank Tops:

These will be available for sale at this competition, from the Volunteer Sign-in  table at the front door. Limited sizes available: $20 (including taxes) each. Perfect for class or practice.

Win a Prize!:

Make a $5 donation in support of our Association and you will be entered for a chance to win one of two great prizes! For a $5 donation you will receive 1 entry in the draw, and for $10 you will receive 3 entries.

Look for the pink and yellow tins for donations at the Entry Table, as well as with volunteers throughout the venue all day. The Prize Draw will take place prior to the Championship Awards in the theatre at the end of the day. If you are not present you will be contacted by phone to determine the best way to get your prize to you.

Many thanks to our great vendors McAleer Highland Gear and TartanTown for their generous donations.

Dancer Names:

If your dancer has a name (first or last) which is often mispronounced please advise correct pronunciation by return email. I am putting together a guide for the MCs in each venue in an attempt to have all names correctly announced should your dancer be a prize winner.

Dancer Notes:

Beginner / Novice / Intermediate dancers:

Please remember, that even if you have a fully stamped dance card you need to present it at both the numbers table to collect your number, AND, at awards so it can be checked.

Premier dancers:

If you are still in possession of a Perpetual Trophy please make arrangements to have these returned on the day. Please contact Rose McNeil, our Awards Co-ordinator (rosemcneil.fvhda@gmail.com), with any questions.

Championship Notes:

Please note that this year we are not awarding judges placings medals.

Draws for each Championship class will be posted in the Theatre Line up Area, and will also be available in the program. The draw for the Championship was generated by a computer algorithm developed by SFU Statistics Professor (and former Highland Dance Dad) Tim Schwartz specifically for use in Highland Dance Championship Draws. More information can be found here. http://people.stat.sfu.ca/~tim/highland/highland.html

Code of Conduct:

Dancers are reminded that it is expected they act in a manner which is inclusive and respectful to all fellow competitors, and the volunteers, whilst in line up, warm up and changing areas. Instances of poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. It is also expected that the venue be treated with care, and that it is left at the end of the day in at least a good a state as at the beginning.

We expect dancers and their parents to observe the SOBHD Code of Ethics, the Scotdance Canada Risk Management policies and the FVHDA Code of Conduct at all times. Copies of all these documents can be found for your convenience on our web site – http://www.fvhda.org/policies/

Social Media

While we are happy for you to post photos of your own dancers and link to our Facebook page (Fraser Valley Highland Dancing Association) or tag us (Fraser Valley Highland Dance) on Facebook, or use the hastag #fraservalleyhighlanddance on Instagram, we ask that you do not post photos or any details of children other than your own without the express permission of that child’s parent / guardian.

Category Changes and Cancellations:

If there are any last minute category changes (Beginner to Novice, Novice to Intermediate, etc), or dancers who will not be attending due to injury or illness, please advise me by return email so I can update my records. However, the program has already gone to print so any changes advised from here on will not be in it.
